Implementation of Safety Practice in Child Welfare, Webinar February 22, 2013
Presenters from the Atlantic Coast Child Welfare Implementation Center and West Virginia’s Department of Health and Human Resources/Bureau for Children and Families will discuss how implementation science was used as a framework to successfully implement West Virginia’s Safety Management System (SAMS). An overview of implementation science will be provided with emphasis on the implementation drivers – training, coaching and systems intervention. Staff from West Virginia will then provide information about the lessons learned while implementing SAMS.

Working Together To Prevent Child Fatalities: Collaboration Among Review Teams, Child Welfare Agencies, and Communities. (PowerPoint Presentation – Due to technical problems the recording of the webinar is unavailable)
This webinar will provide an overview and summary of a year-long Children’s Bureau study to examine best strategies for collaboration among fatality review teams with the aim of increasing the efficacy of child fatality prevention efforts. The study included a literature review, extensive review of fatality review reports and recommendations, site visits, and a national convening of fatality review stakeholders. The webinar will include: an overview of national data on child fatalities; a discussion of the structure and functions of different types of fatality and near fatality reviews that affect children and families; a summary of the types of recommendations that are formulated by review teams; and discussion of the impact of such recommendations. The benefits of collaboration at local and state levels will also be explored. Questions specific to the study will be answered at the end of the presentation.

The webinar provided information on the NRCCPS work plan including project goals and expertise of staff and consultants; NRCCPS peer group work with the State Liaison Officers, Children’s Justice Act grantees and Citizen Review Boards; upcoming activities, TA requests and collaborations with other NRCs, ICs, and others; outreach activities and the role of the NRCCPS in assisting States to meet CFSR outcomes.
